OK, I give up. If you do a google search of this problem, it’s been going on for years over multiple versions of Excel and Windows and there hasn’t been one definitive solution yet.

My Excel worked just fine until about a week ago. So I just switched over to a new PC and updated everything, including buying Office Excel still won’t attach a file to an email and I still get this same lame message. I have tried, at this point, about a dozen “fixes” from all the many posts about this very problem.

None work. How can this be going on for so many years without a solution? I swear Microsoft’s goal is to push all of us non-IT people to Apple. What am I supposed to do? I can fully understand your frustration.

But before going further, could you please clarify the following things then we can help you better? How was this error triggered? By the way, what’s the detailed build number of your Windows system? I found an older fix that works for me as I have a lot of people with this problem as well as general mail failure error and it seems to fix it for me so worth a try at lease.

Doesn’t work on any of our new Dell Laptops either. The file location in the fix above does not exist. DLL but after removing it and starting Outlook again the file gets rebuilt. Quit Microsoft Excel, restart the mail system, and try again.

Would be nice to see a fix on this as we have several laptops now with the same issue. Perhaps Google’s free software might be a better bet moving forward. For us, we had office pro plus installed. So when you click on the start button and scroll through the apps, we would see one app listed for ‘Excel’ and then another right below it: ‘Excel ‘.

All of the MS apps had double entries like this. What you need to do is to right click on all of the unnecessary office apps for us it was the plain ‘excel’, ‘word’, etc. Reboot the PC, login as the user and the excel file-send feature will work again. Desde que elimine el Office que normalmente lo instala el usuario desde la tienda, volvi instale office y todo esta de maravilla.

If you have duplicates ‘Excel’ AND ‘Excel ‘, for example , what you need to do is to right-click on all of the office app entries that do NOT relate to the version of office you have installed, and uninstall them.

So kill the ‘excel’ app but leave the ‘excel ‘ app and repeat for all apps in your office suite. Reboot and log back in as that user. This worked for us after banging our heads against a wall for several weeks. You will have to do this for each user. Proposed as answer by pressanykey Tuesday, July 30, PM. Thursday, March 7, PM.
